Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Max. size:  38.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 400 - 1600 m
Distribution:  Southeast Atlantic and Southwest Indian Ocean: known only from off Saldanha Bay, Cape west coast to Richards Bay, Natal, South Africa.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Although most captures have been made with bottom trawls, specimens have recently been taken in midwater trawls fished close to the bottom, suggesting forays to the water column by individuals of different sizes (Ref. 11953).
