Family:  Holocentridae (Squirrelfishes, soldierfishes), subfamily: Myripristinae
Max. size:  22 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 34 - 45 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Luzon (Philippines) and Madang Province, Papua New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-14; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 12-13. Description: Characterized by red with darker red scale margins, white leading edge on soft dorsal, anal, pelvic and caudal fins; apex of soft dorsal and anal fins with blackish blotch; opercular membrane blackish; third and fourth anal spines about equal in length; axil of pectoral fins without small scales; very narrow interorbital, 5.7-6.0 in head length; body depth 2.1-2.2 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Collected in protected waters with silty sand and rubble bottoms.
