Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 1018 - 1430 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: known from the type locality, 5°12.79'N, 49°00.98'E.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 96-96; Anal soft rays: 50; Vertebrae: 86-86. Belongs to the short-skulled species-group of Monognathus. Anterior dorsal fin-ray above vertebra number 4, five vertebrae between anus and anal fin, length of pectoral fins 9.5% and posterior urostyle filament 53% of total length.
Biology:  Length measured from tip of snout to base of urostyle.
