Family:  Characidae (Characins; tetras), subfamily: Stethaprioninae
Max. size:  5.37 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Brazil. tributaries of the upper rio Sepotuba in the rio Paraguai basin and tributaries of the rio Juruena in the rio Tapajôs basin in Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 5-5; Anal soft rays: 15-18; Vertebrae: 28-30
Biology:  Its type locality is a clearwater, moderately fast flowing, large stream (4-5 m wide, 0.5 - 2 m deep), mainly with sandy bottom (Ref. 72399). Except one specimen taken at the main channel of the stream, all specimens were collected at backwaters, near marginal macrophytes (Ref. 72399). Forms large schools (>50 individuals) at the river bank, sheltered among dead, submerged saplings (Ref. 72399). Insects (mainly ants), vegetal matter and algae are found in the stomach contents (Ref. 72399).
