Distribution:  Africa: marine lower Congo (Ref. 42032) and lower Congo River (Ref. 59215) in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Report from the Dja in Cameroon (Ref. 42032) questionable and probably erroneous (see Ref. 59215).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8. Body height 2.6-2.9 times in standard length (Ref. 42032). Head length 3.5-3.8 times in standard length (Ref. 42032). Cuspid number: external row of upper jaw 1, internal row of upper jaw 6-9, external row of lower jaw 5-7, internal row of lower jaw 1 (Ref. 42032). Base of the scales in the middle of the flank dark (Ref. 42032). Fins without black marks (Ref. 42032). Living specimens with silvery lateral band (Ref. 42032).
