Family:  Triacanthodidae (Spikefishes), subfamily: Triacanthodinae
Max. size:  16.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 50 - 675 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Kenya to Japan and New Zealand (Ref. 5755). Southeast Atlantic: one record off Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 13-15. Pinkish red in color, paler below; stripe radiating posteriorly from eye (Ref. 6660).
Biology:  Feeds on scales of fishes (Ref. 6660).
