Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  8.6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Ohio River basin from Muskingum River drainage in Ohio to southeast Illinois (extirpated in Illinois) and south to Tennessee River drainage in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi, USA; upper Black Warrior River system (Gulf basin) in Alabama, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rocky pools and runs of clear, fairly fast headwaters, creeks, and small rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205), probably open substratum spawners like congeners.
