Family:  Pseudochromidae (Dottybacks), subfamily: Pseudoplesiopinae
Max. size:  5.33 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 20 - 70 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Ryukyu Islands, Japan, Philippines to Indonesia (Ref. 90102).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2-2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26-27; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 15-16. Description: Characterized by having pinkish to red head; broad, dark brown stripe at upper portion of body that terminates in large black spot at base of caudal fin, lower portion white or pale pink; generally pale fins; yellow or whitish basal portion of dorsal fin; single lateral-line scale; depth of body 20.9-21.3 % of SL at level of origin of dorsal fin (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Inhabits outer reefs, in caves and crevices or beneath overhangs on steep slopes in 20-70 m (Ref 90102).
