Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  26 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: widespread in the Congo River basin, Luapula-Mweru excluded (Ref. 26192). Single record from Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 1440) unconfirmed (Ref. 26192) and doubtful.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14. The first branched dorsal fin ray is largest; flanks are without longitudinal dark bands (Ref. 12456).
Biology:  Inhabits large rivers (Ref. 4967).
