Family:  Synagropidae (Splitfin ocean-basses)
Max. size:  16.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 50 - 500 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: from Mauritania to Namibia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Dark brownish dorsally, paler below.
Biology:  Found over mud bottom (Ref. 26999). Most abundant at about 200 m (Ref. 6916). Feeds on pelagic crustaceans like euphausiids, mysids and decapods (Ref. 27637).
