Diagnosis: |
Dorsal soft rays (total): 91-93. Nostril slit-like. Tongue slender with many irregular villiform tooth patches. First spine of dorsal fin elongate. First anal fin ray scale-like, other embedded; pelvic fins reduced to scale-like spines. Pectoral fins triangular in shape. Body is silvery white, all fins pale brown, opercle lining blackish. |
Biology: |
Abundant in sea mountain areas, sometimes near the shore. Feeds on rather large fishes (species of Priacanthus, Decapterus, Emmelichthys, etc.) in Kyushu Palau-Ridge. Sometimes marketed fresh in Okinawa, Japan when caught. |
