Family:  Etmopteridae (Lantern sharks)
Max. size:  23 cm TL (male/unsexed); 23 cm TL (female)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 100 - 1000 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Texas to Florida (USA), northern Gulf of Mexico, and Nicaragua. Reported off Suriname (Ref. 13608).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on upper continental slopes. Probably forms schools. May also feed communally on large squid that may be too large for a single individual. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205).
