Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5.5 - 6; dH range: 2 - 6
Distribution:  Africa: reliably known from upper reaches of the Oti River in Atakora, north Benin (Ref. 2801, 2940, 81282). Also present in Ogun River (Ref. 2801, 81282), Bénué (Ref. 13331) and Kaduna River (Niger basin) in Nigeria (Ref. 2801). Also reported from the Mono River, Togo (Ref. 28663, 81282) and Ouémé River, Benin (Ref. 81282). Present in coastal rivers in Ghana (Ref. 2801).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Diagnosis: last simple dorsal-fin ray smooth on hind margin; scale formula 4.5-5.5/27-29/4.5; 2.5 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin base; 12 scales around caudal peduncle; 7 branched dorsal fin rays; two pairs of short barbels; anterior barbel not reaching to anterior margin of eye; posterior barbel not extending beyond centre of eye/reaching to, or extending beyond, posterior half of eye; lateral line complete and slightly depressed below dorsal fin; maximum reported size 30 mm SL; no black spot on dorsal fin; more or less distinct dark band along middle of sides (Ref. 2940, 81282). Description: dorsal profile convex; mouth subterminal; D: III,7; A: III,5; P: 13-14; V: I,7(Ref. 2940, 81282). Coloration: lateral-line scales black-edged; black longitudinal band along middle of sides, separated from lateral line by half scale below dorsal fin (Ref. 2940, 81282).
