Distribution:  Africa: Nile River, but also reported from the Chad and Niger basins (Ref. 2940, 81282).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Diagnosis: last simple dorsal-fin ray smooth on hind margin; scale formula 3.5/22-25/3.5; 2.5 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin base; 8-10 scales around caudal peduncle; lateral-line scales not deeper than other scales and marked with black, sometimes simulating a longitudinal band; 8 branched dorsal fin rays; no barbels; lateral line complete, straight; maximum reported size 30 mm SL (Ref. 2940, 81282). Description: small species; mouth subterminal, without barbels; D:III,8; A:III,5; P:12-14; V:I,7 (Ref. 2940, 81282). Coloration: scales above lateral line lined with melanophores; greater concentration of melanophores on lateral-line scales, which in some individuals may form narrow longitudinal band extending unto snout; fins colorless (Ref. 2940, 81282).
