Family:  Ogcocephalidae (Batfishes)
Max. size:  14.9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 366 - 2324 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: off Mexico and Central and South America, from the mouth of Gulf of Mexico to off the southern tip of Peru.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 4-6; Anal soft rays: 4-4; Vertebrae: 18-20. Entire body covered with simple, very small, and thickly distributed tubercles Cephalic lateral-line counts: subopercular usually 6, (5-7); preopercular, 3 (1-4). Tail lateral-line counts 9-15. Subopercular spines small, inconspicuous. Paired fins with tubercles covering pedicels and occurring along both dorsal and ventral surfaces of fin rays. Slender fins relatively week (Ref. 40826).
