Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Bodianinae
Max. size:  50 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 70 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Atlantic: tropical western coast of Africa, from Cameroon to Guinea and in the offshore Cape Verde Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit rocky and reef-like areas, rich in algae (Ref. 26999). A protogynous hermaphrodite (Ref. 5292). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205).
