Environment:  pelagic-neritic; marine; depth range 15 - 320 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal soft rays: 10-13; Vertebrae: 43-45. This species is distinguished by the following characters: branchiostegal rays 2; vertebrae 43 - 45 (usually 44); gill rakers 25 - 31 (usually 27 - 31); short supraorbital bone do not reach posteriorly over centre of eye; caudal peduncle about as long as deep and of similar length to anal-fin base (Ref. 97709).
