Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Melanostomiinae
Max. size:  10.9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 20 - 1646 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Morocco to Mauritania, and from Angola to South Africa. Western Atlantic: Gulf of Mexico; reported from the Antilles (Ref. 26340). Southeast Pacific: Chile (Ref. 9068). Indian Ocean. Western Central Pacific (Ref. 39804). South China Sea (Ref.74511).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 12-14. Deep black, fins white and barbel yellowish white (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  Meso- (Ref. 4468) and bathypelagic (Ref. 58302).
