Remarks 'Pono' is a global name given to parrotfishes as a group. The Christmas parrotfish has become a common food fish in the late 90s. It is caught with accepted traditional fishing gears, e.g. basket traps. It has become one of the main species in artisanal fisher's catch but was not a desired food fish a few decades ago when fish was more bountiful.
