Remarks | 'lycaspine', i.e., 'lyc' from Latin 'lycaon', i.e., Ethiopian wolf (Ref. 27887) from Greek 'lykos', i.e., wolf (p. 123, Ref. 26921) and Greek 'aspis', i.e., scute, in allusion to the paired scutes alongside the bases of the dorsal and the anal fins, and to the series of rayless scutes, on dorsum anterior to the dorsal fin, arranged as the upper ends of rafters or 'chevrons' of a gable roof (Ref. 27545). |
