Short description

Μαλακές ραχιαίες ακτίνες (συνολικά): 52-57; Μαλακές εδρικές ακτίνες: 58 - 63; Σπόνδυλοι: 55 - 58. This species is distinguished by the following characters: orgin of second dorsal-fin well posterior, above bases of 5th to 7th anal-fin rays; snout pointed distinctly longer than eye diameter; upper lobe of the opercle branched distally; body is relatively slender, its depth 10.0-13.0% SL; principal caudal-fin rays 13 (middle 11 branched); D2 52.57; A 58-63; transverse scale rows below orgin of second dorsal-fin 16-18; longitudinal scale rows along body axis 86-93; vertebrae 55-58; the entire body evenly covered with melanophores, those on lateral sides forming regular longitudinal rows, one melanophores per scale; head and isthmus are entirely, but loosely, covered with variably sized melanophores (Ref. 123139).
The depth range suggests diel vertical migration in Tosa Bay (Ref. 123139).
