Comments Localized in South I. (Ref. 52336). Known only in lakes from the headwaters of the Waitaki River system. Range is declining (Ref. 52336). Also Ref. 5755. 500,000 ova were given to New Zealand by the Canadian government in 1901-1902 (Ref. 11115). This species was introduced to develop a commercial fishery, it remains a small recreational fishery. It is the only successful introduction of this species outside its native range (Ref. 74657)..     Ref:  McDowall, R.M., 1984
