Known from Peninsular and Southeast Thailand, Salween, Maeklong, Chao Phraya and Mekong basins (Ref. 26336). Common in the Mekong mainstreams as well as its tributaries, living in pools with submerged wood and shrubs (Ref. 37770). Reported to move into tributaries during the flood season to spawn (Ref. 37770). The flesh has excellent flavour but has numerous tiny bones inside. Is commonly used to make fish balls and fish cake. Can also be processed by smoking (Ref. 6459). Museum: Mekong mainstream, CAS 97089 (near Chiang Khan); CAS 96646 (between Pak Ing and Jom Paeng, about 4-5 km downstream) (Ref. 5515).
