Ranges from Angra Fria to Sandwich Harbour (Ref. 3688). Specimens held at the MFMR. Forms great shoals from Walvis Bay northwards during spawning period (spring and summer) (Ref. 3198). Caught commonly by shore anglers and commercially by ski-boats and linefish boats; occasionally caught in purse seines; and one of the 4 most important recreational angling fishes (Ref. 36731). Also Ref. 3198, 54854.
