Known from the inland rivers in the Usumacinta watershed that drains into the Gulf of Mexico west of the Yucatan Peninsula. Type locality, Rio Ixcan drainage, 2400 m elevation, about 300 m below outfall from underground, Rio San Ramon, Huehuetenango, UMMZ 245081 (ex 197087), 3.66 cm SL, male) (Ref. 57711).
