Native to UK but introduced to Loch Lomond (Ref. 32684). Introduced in northern Great Britain (Ref. 59043). The expansion in the native range by this species is attributed to their use by anglers as live bait for targeting the piscivorous pike Esox lucius (Ref. 101394). Also Ref. 556, 5204, 90052.
