Type localities: Indian Ocean [unspecified], MNHP 6663 (holotype of Sebastes bougainvillii); Spencer Gulf, SA, SAMA F601 (holotype of Neosebastes pantica). Known from Kangaroo I., SA (138°03'E) to Shark Bay, WA (28°53'S) (Ref. 75154). Inhabits deep offshore reefs (Ref. 33839). Also Ref. 12723, 54394.
