Type localities: Shark Bay, Western Australia, MNHN 6865 (lectotype of Platycephalus endrachtensis, 17.5 cm SL); Middle Harbor, Port Jackson, New South Wales, AMS B.7136 (holotype of Platycephalus arenarius, 23.89 cm SL). Known from New South Wales (35°59'S) to Hamelin Bay, Western Australia (ca. 34°10'S) (Ref. 86914). Abundant in Moreton Bay, Queensland (Ref. 78751). Museum: CSIRO CA1162; NTM S.10733-004 (TGT1289). Also Ref. 3132.
