Ranges south to Durban, but strays to Algoa Bay. Occasionally abundant on Natal reefs. Juveniles found offshore along the Cape south coast to near Knysna. Status of stock indeterminate; prominent in offshore catches (Ref. 4332). Also Ref. 3507, 12484.
