Type locality: Guanajuato. Rare in Lake Chapala. Endemic to the Rio Lerma basin, abundance declining, endangered (Ref. 27639). Celio River, at Jacona and Duero River, at Zamora (Michoacán State), Lerma River and Lake Chapala (Jalisco and Michoacán states). All these drain into the Pacific Ocean through the Santiago River (Ref. 89241).

Status of threat: endangered. Criteria: 1,2,5 (http://fisc.er.usgs.gov/afs/) (Ref. 81264).
