Occurs in basins of the Rhône, the Saône and the Dordogne and in some tributaries of the Garonne and the Loire (Ref. 30578). Native in Rhône, Garonne, Adour and most of the mediterranean rivers. Colonized the Loire basin around 1880 and is reported from Yonne (Ref. 40476). In Annex II of the Directive Habitats Faune-Flore (Ref. 11941). In "Annexe III de la Convention de Berne". After rivers planning and Chondrostoma nasus invasion, it has nearly disappeared from the axis Rhône-Saône and only susbsists in some tributary rivers (Ref. 40476). Also Ref. 2163, 32724.
