Uses: gamefish: yes;
Comments: Found in Galicia (Ref. 86578). Threatened due to the introduction of Oncorhynchus mykiss and allochthonous stocks of Salmo trutta from central Europe; also due to angling pressure, construction of dams, habitat destruction, pollution, and overfishing (Ref. 79582). Hatchery reared brown trout were stocked in rivers in Asturias, Northern Spain for the last 20 years to enhance natural populations or re-establish extinguished ones, however, genetic investigations revealed that while LDH-5 100 allele is fixed in wild populations, LDH-5 90 allele is fixed in hatchery bred populations. Results of this investigation is now being used to evaluate the stocking policy in Asturian rivers (Ref. 40213). Minimum capture size: 19-35 cm TL (Ref. 119049). Also Ref. 683. Status of threat: vulnerable (Ref. 79582, 119049).
