Recorded from Northland to Stewart I. and the Chatham Is. (Ref. 9003). Not sampled from the west coast of South I. Common in the intertidal zone at Chatham Is. (Ref. 9003). Smallest rockfish found in New Zealand waters (Ref. 9003). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ (Ref. 5755). Also Ref. 45524.
