Comments: Restricted to Patzcuaro and Rancho El Morino, Michoacan. Found in Lake Patzcuaro which has no outlet, making its water slightly brackish. Population stable in the 1990s (Ref. 27639). Status of threat: endangered. Criteria: 1,5 (http://fisc.er.usgs.gov/afs/) (Ref. 81264).

Etymology: Allotoca: Greek, allos = other + Greek, tokos = birth (Ref. 45335). The transliterated Latin terminal part of the compound name ('tocus') was changed to 'toca', thus the genus is feminine (Ref. 35111).
