Since 1965 DATRAS reported catches of 1,734 individuals out of 6,317 hauls and 17 individuals out of 2,655 hauls taken in or near the German EEZ of the North and Baltic Seas, respectively (Ref. 88760). Threatened in the western Baltic Sea due to target fisheries, eutrophication/pollution and habitat loss (Ref. 83294). Human activities in the German North and Baltic seas that might affect starry rays: fisheries, sediment removal, offshore installations, constructions of cables and pipelines, channel deepening and technical installations (Ref. 88171).
