Comments: Considered a Lower Guinea endemic in Ref. 81635. Known from the lower Ntem (Ref. 27896), the Sanaga and the upper Ogowe (Ref. 51193). Reports from the middle Congo River basin (Ref. 1878, 1880, 46233, 51193) questionable.

Etymology: Paramormyrops: Greek, para = near + Greek, mormyros = a fish (Sparus sp) (Ref. 45335).

Issue
According to Hopkins et al. (Ref. 81635) this species is a Lower Guinea endemic and should be placed in the genus Paramormyrops at species level, but they ignore the fact that there is also a subspecies in West Africa, Brienomyrus kingsleyae eburneensis, whose taxonomic status is now uncertain (Boden, pers. comm.).
