Etymology: Apricaphanius: Name from the Latin substantive Apricus, meaning 'shining', alluding to the many small white spots on the flanks of the male, which give them a shiny appearance.;  saourensis: The species name comes from the geographical toponym "Saoura", the name of the valley from which the type series was collected, and the only known locality with an extant population (Ref. 57144).
