Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal soft rays: 8; Vertebrae: 41. The new species is characterized by the following: an elongate snout and head; small pouchlike eyes; an adipose fin; short dorsal fin base; anal fin base originating under dorsal fin base; a clear longitudinal suborbital brownish band extending forward from behind posterior margin of orbit to snout tip; and 41 (= 26+15) vertebrae. Total fecundity is low; the ovarian eggs number only 473, despite the ovary having developed ova. Ovarian eggs could be clearly subdivided into an 'undeveloped group' (0.1-0.7?mm diameter classes, n?=?405) and a 'developed group' (0.9-1.3?mm classes, n=68), based on their frequency distribution (Ref. 58272).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5020   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00437 (0.00170 - 0.01121), b=3.10 (2.88 - 3.32), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.4   ±0.1 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Fec=473).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
