Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal soft rays: 11 - 12. In both sexes, specially in females, are peculiar combination of speckled and barred sides, Body shape rhombic; snout acute. Dorsal fin of female overlaid by melanophores, with 2 - 3 distal and 2 - 3 basal spots, parallel to body, seldom with hints of posterior ocellus as seen in pupfishes. Pectoral fins reach middle of dorsal fin base when depressed; cover most of the pelvic length. Male anal fin is pointed, nearly reaching caudal base; caudal band narrower than eye. Mouth slightly higher on profile than in C. variegatus complex. Caudal peduncle short, 20.7 - 25.9% SL (Ref. 39345).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Collected from a spring with some complex slow currents; clear water which is easily roiled. Bottom is ooze, bubbling with odorous gases (sulphurous), and no vegetation except some algae (Ref. 38030).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01000 (0.00244 - 0.04107), b=3.04 (2.81 - 3.27), in cm total length, based on all LWR estimates for this body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.7   ±0.2 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
