Larvae nearly completely pigmented; very elongate and slender with long preanal length; lower jaw begins to elongate into beak by end of yolk absorption (about 7-10 mm) and upper jaw begins to elongate by about 16 mm; dorsal fin rays 13-17, anal fin rays 16-19. Pigmentation: Larvae: completely pigmented initially except on branchiostegal membrane, pectoral fin blades, median finfold, and end of gut; decreasing lateral melanistic pigment on trunk after about 27 mm.
