| Comments: | Spawning occurs in streams not far from the sea, from October to December, with a few populations breeding as late as February. In the southern part of its range, spawning occurs at age 2 regardless of size. Fecundity varies from 535 eggs in small females of a landlocked stock to more than 23,600 for large anadromous fish; average fecundity for anadromous females is said to be about 18,000 eggs (Ref. 27547). | |||||||||||
