1 of 1

Size (cm): 20 TL
Locality: Singapore, Sheltered coasts, mangroves, tidal rivers, reservoirs and ponds
Sex: undetermined
Date: 1999-02-08
Remark: Introduced by unknown means (could have come by natural sea migration or via aquarium trade). Found in fresh and brackish water and in the sea along the coasts. Originally limited to the northern coast, but well established by 2000 all round the country (egs: Kallang-Rochor canal systems, Lower Seletar Reservoir, Punggol Pond, Pasir Ris Pond, Sungei Buloh river, sea near Yishun/Seletar dam-- the source of the specimen in the photo by E. Chua on the Fishbase species page). Appears to be displacing Oreochromis mossambicus as most abundant introduced cichlid. See URL to find web pages with photos of this species caught in Singapore.
