Remarks Formerly an FAO/English common name (Ref. 5481). 'trout' from Middle English from Old English 'truht' from Low Latin 'trocta, tructa', i.e., a fish with sharp teeth, from Greek 'troktes', i.e., gnawer, from 'trogein', i.e., to gnaw (p. 1266 in Ref. 11978).
