Remarks Name given to the coastal form of this species. 'Cutthroat', i.e., one likely to cut throats, ruthless in competition, unprincipled (p. 319 in Ref. 11978); 'trout' from Middle English from Old English 'truht' from Low Latin 'trocta, tructa', i.e., a fish with sharp teeth, from Greek 'troktes', i.e., gnawer, from 'trogein', i.e., to gnaw (p. 1266 in Ref. 11978). Most anglers consider this fish of inferior sporting quality, it is a hard fighter and strikes a wide selection of lures (p. 182 in Ref. 1998).
